DESIGN - OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

These are the nuggets that the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) would like for everyone to know about us:

  • We facilitate and support undergraduate student-faculty mentor collaborative research, and are here to help students through every step of the process.
We supply students with information about possible research projects with faculty mentors and are available to help guide students through the research process.  This includes advice on how to reach out to faculty, instruction for how to apply to our programs, preparation for dissemination, etc.  We are also looking to provide more access to relevant resources (i.e. trainings for certifications and additional preparation for each of these steps).  Students, however, are responsible for arranging their own project – actually reaching out to faculty, deciding on and pursuing projects, applying to our programs, obtaining relevant certifications for projects, etc.

  • In addition to the well-known Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), we offer several other programs for undergraduate student researchers.
We have several programs and events available to all undergraduate students who are working with a faculty mentor on research projects or creative works, including UROP, Small and Travel Grants, the Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS), the Undergraduate Research Scholar Designation (URSD), Research on Capitol Hill (RoCH), and others.

  • Every U undergraduate student is an OUR student.
We are here to serve all University of Utah undergraduate students, from all majors and backgrounds. Every U undergraduate student is our student.  We provide educational events to help any student at any point in the research process (curious about research, wanting to become involved, already involved, ready to disseminate, ready to graduate, etc.) and are available to provide guidance and support through any of these stages.  All students are welcome in our office.  All students are eligible and can benefit from what we offer.  Research is an endeavor that is appropriate and beneficial to all students and we want to help all students be engaged in research in whatever way best suits them.

Happy advising!
Stephanie Shiver, Undergraduate Research Advisor, & the OUR Team
