When meeting with declaring students, I will
give them the assignment of researching a dream job and bringing in information
about this job to our next appointment. In that appointment, we will discuss
the skills needed for that position and design a plan to develop those skills
in their time at the U.

International & Area Studies majors have
either a required signature/international experience. I encourage students to
use this requirement to apply for an internship in a field they are passionate
about or to study abroad in a country/culture/language they are passionate
about. When we discuss the international experience, I do not ask students where
they want to intern/study, I ask students what kind of experience they are
looking, what they want to learn while abroad, what skills they want to work on
while abroad.
